A woman who cares is the most beautiful woman of all
Marzia is talking about a documentary about the fashion industry in this video. (The same kinda topic was mentioned in Haulternative and later briefly in one of her LA vlogs)
You can check out online for stores that don’t use sweat shops; support smaller businesses that help workers in 3rd world countries, sign petitions for worker laws and to companies to stop mistreating their workers; go shopping at thrift shops which can reduce waste and give to the poor (like ex. value village/savers), and give your clothes away instead of letting it go to landfills.
Here is a website she links in Haulternative: http://fashionrevolution.org/
We can make a difference guys, and we need all the help we can
get! :D
I think that most of us have heard of these things- child labour, sweatshops, how some chinese kids are working day to night for a dollar to make that walmart blouse whatever things like that. At least I have, and while I was aware of these things before, hearing Marzia talk about this makes me think about how hearing about something, having a surface knowledge about it, while you still know it’s terrible, it’s quite different from seeing these things happen and hearing the people talk to us about it.
I haven’t watched The True Cost yet (I’ll check it out when I can one day); but in any case the “issues” behind it are very real; Many companies don’t have a basic principle of putting people over profits; Clothes are thrown to landfills (in any case, many things are thrown to landfills) in massive amounts; Even if a little change is small compared to this large industry, it can still contribute to a good thing.
If I write about it all here it’ll be super long and I’m not even an expert on this anyways, and there are different stores all over the world, so you may look into these yourself. I’m sure there are many resources online and at your local library, as well as this movie which you can find online and maybe start with. There is nothing wrong with buying things in itself, but it would help to withdraw our “support” from “unethical” sources
I’m so glad that Marzia cares so much about this subject. It’s just really touching and it really encourages me and since we are marzipans let’s be inspired to make some “better choices”!!
